This novel was a winner in the 2007 National Novel Writing Month contest. It is my first novel. I’ve been a lover of horror stories since I was a little girl. I cut my teeth on the Dracula and Frankenstein movies, and I still think that Bram Stoker and Mary Shelley’s novels are the best of all time.
I’ve always wanted to write a story that would give even the most jaded reader a chill up her spine. I hope to learn from my readers whether The House meets that standard. The story came about through two of my short stories: a house in which bad things tended to happen figured prominently in both stories, and friends suggested that I write about the house itself.
I plan to post a chapter every week or so, depending on traffic. I invite you, my readers, to comment on each chapter. I am looking for constructive criticism, ways I can improve my writing and give the reader a more satisfying (and frightening) experience.
Thank you in advance for the time you take to read and comment on The House.
